Performance evaluation of combined solar chimney and radiative cooling ventilation

Passive cooling is inevitable for buildings to be resilient global warming. While many forms of passive techniques have been developed, radiative (RC), as an emerging technology, still not widely applied in buildings. Due current limitations, proposals implementing RC come up combination with other design strategies. In this study, we propose combine natural ventilation the form a novel RC-enhanced roof solar chimney (SC-RC) and present evaluation its thermal performance. A hypothetical room equipped SC on sun-facing side roof, cavity opposite side, was developed. Three different opening configurations were arranged case studies, namely ‘SC + wall-opening’, ‘SC-RC’, ‘SC-RC wall-opening’. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using ANSYS Fluent 2021 employed simulate studies. The results indicate that improves performance system. terms performance, wall-opening’ observed superior conventional case, daily average rate 1.2 ACH (required minimum: 0.7 ACH). Likewise, ‘SC-RC’ cases are also better than without cavity.
